Planets of the Universe
Exhibited artist: Suzanne Nacha
Suzanne Nacha presents Planets of the Universe, an exhibition of recent painting, sculpture and photo work. Marking her first solo shown at United Contemporary, Planets of the Universe welcomes you into an idiosyncratic world in which the artist balances humour, pathos and anthropomorphic tendencies to examine our relationship to geologic and industrial landscape.
Nacha’s imagery draws playfully from both geology and visual arts history. Informed by her experiences mapping the far-reaches of Canada, creating geologic maps that span the earth’s continents, and the study of structural geology. Nacha received her MFA from York University in 2003, and has exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe. Her work is represented in public and private collections, including the iDepartment of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the National Bank of Canada, and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery.
Duration: 1 hour
Join Suzanne Nacha in conversation with Canadian artist, Matthew Carver. Matthew Carver is a painter who often questions in the studio if something pleasing and beautiful can shift, nudge, and hint at something darker and possibly foreboding. Together, Nacha and Carver will discuss Nacha’s newest body of work ‘Planets of the Universe’ to delve into the intricacies of her art practice, and how her personal history and side hustle as a geological scientist informs her painting and sculpture.
